The pyrimidine nucleoside phosphorylase Y04 is of bacterial origin and thermostable up to 80°C. Pyrimidine nucleoside phosphorylases catalyze the reversible phosphorolytic breakdown of the N-glycosidic bond of the pyrimidine nucleosides uridine, thymidine and 2'-deoxyuridine with the formation of the corresponding pyrimidine base and pentose-1-phosphate. The enzyme does not distinguish between alpha-D-ribose 1-phosphate and 2-deoxy-alpha-D-ribose 1-phosphate in the synthetic direction.
PyNP, Py-NPase, PYNP, pynpase, pyrimidine ribonucleoside phosphorylase, pyrimidine-nucleoside:phosphate (2'-deoxy)-α-D-ribosyltransferase
(1) uridine + phosphate = uracil + α-D-ribose 1-phosphate
(2) 2'-deoxyuridine + phosphate = uracil + 2-deoxy-α-D-ribose 1-phosphate
(3) thymidine + phosphate = thymine + 2-deoxy-α-D-ribose 1-phosphate
