Poly(U) polymerase PUP01

The poly(U) polymerase PUP01 is a mesophilic enzyme of eukaryotic origin. The enzyme catalyzes the terminal uridylation of mRNAs with short poly(U) tails, hence facilitating global mRNA decay. PUP requires an oligoribonucleotide or polyribonucleotide with a free terminal 3'-OH as a primer. Also possesses a weak poly(A) polymerase (PAP) activity
